Classic garage flavours returning to record shops this week as Horsepower Production’s remix of Re-Animator’s 2001 ‘Return to the E’ gets a repress alongside a new track from London based label, Beneath.
Having not heard Horsepower’s effort before, I’m grateful to have been made aware of this record: Initially built around long sustained chords and distinctive swinging drum patterns, ‘Return to the E’ fronts as very chilled smooth laid back groove, but soon transforms into a more dancefloor heavy number just past the one minute mark. Expect lots of clichéd garage and jungle soundboard clips, from rewinds to gunshots to futuristic hardware sounds –for me they work really well here, but understandably they ain’t for everyone.
