Events worth leaving the house for: April

As the dust from a mammoth Easter weekend settles, we take a look at the best events happening in Manchester this month. Featuring the likes of 1-800 Dinosaur, Ron Morelli, Alexander Nut, Robert Hood and Omar S.

Friday 10th
The Roadhouse – Now Wave
1-800 Dinosaur
1-800 Dinosaur, the collective through which James Blake made his name along with the likes of Airhead and Dan Foat is in town, ready to distribute fruit to the dancefloor and have a great party. Known for handing out grapes and watermelon during sets in London, this time they head up north to share the love. Advance tickets have sold out but there will be some on the door so don’t snooze on the night!

Soup Kitchen – Zutekh
Nick Höppner
Mainstay of one of the most famous techno labels in the world – Osgut Ton – and resident of one of the most famous techno clubs in the world – Berghain – Höppner produces, DJs and manages, his talents complimenting and fuelling his output, evidenced via his recent LP. Zutekh always attracts the ‘heads’ so expect much Shazamming for this one.

Thursday 16th
Xolo – Coded Rhythm
Jimmy Edgar
Ultramajic boss, producer, DJ, photographer Jimmy Edgar is a man of many talents, having been DJing out since 15 and signed to Warp Records at 18 he’s had plenty of chance to hone and his talents. Renowned for his raucous live sets, Coded Rhythm bring him over from Berlin for this long overdue Manchester date at Xolo.

Friday 17th
The Whiskey Jar – Heads up & Flyin’ Easy Soul Club
Patrick Forge 
Longtime Gilles Peterson collaborator and radio host, Patrick Forge is a true veteran of the worldwide scene, with music spanning the globe and mixing to rival the best of the best. Good vibes and happy people.

Manchester Academy – Pangaea Launch
Dimitri from Paris, FaultyDL
A great booking to warm up the crowd in preparation for the June edition of infamous festival, Pangaea falls in just before students knuckle down for exams as a nice way to say goodbye to freedom for the month of May. Dimitri has disco records to keep the dancefloor boogying till the early hours, ably supported by FaultyDL who will likely pull out some four to the floor stompers.

Saturday 18th
Secret Warehouse – Selective Hearing & Project 13
Ron Morelli, Delroy Edwards, Randomer
Boss of L.I.E.S. Records, Ron Morelli heads over the pond, bringing with him two of the label’s finest exports and modern-day legends in their own right: Delroy Edwards and Randomer, responsible for some of the best garage releases and techno-driven output on the label respectively. Morelli brought the roof down when he played for meandyou_ a while back so expect nothing less this time around.

The Roadhouse – So Flute
Alexander Nut
Rinse FM regular and Floating Points label mate, Alexander Nut, returns to So Flute to play their penultimate party in The Roadhouse, the near-final hurrah before the nightclub closes its doors for good. Nut is a champion at banter and selections although for tonight the banter will be strictly minimal to focus on the marvellous music. A rising star in the world, disco scene, this is one light-hearted party not to miss.

Akito
Trax Couture member is back in Manchester to bring some jackin’ to the rainy city with his head pounding, bassface inducing grime and bashment. Here’s one for the punters who aren’t afraid to tear the shit out of the dancefloor.

Thursday 23rd
Mint Lounge
SoulJam
The most popular funk & soul night in Manchester returns for its next instalment, it’s often hard to beat the resident DJs as they read their own crowd like a song book, know which tunes to pull and which to hold back. SoulJam DJs are no exception so get on down.

Friday 24th (there are a lot of reasons to leave the house tonight)

Jam City [GIG]
Night Slugs signing Jam City dropped his new album last month, showing off his versatility as he made the journey through electronic music samples via a melancholic mix of slow jams interceded with bass and grime in keeping with the label’s aesthetic.
*The rather excellent MoodHut member Jack J will be heading up the club for Dancers Wanted straight after*

Not So Secret Warehouse Party
Hunee (anything goes)
Disco champion Hunee is landing somewhere in Manchester (location revealed to ticket holders) to play a three-hour ‘anything goes’ set. After witnessing his skills last year back in club academy, he’s definitely one to look out for. Get on your dancing shoes!

Secret Venue – Selective Hearing

The godfather of techno finally comes to Manchester, after his date in January was postponed due to illness. There’ve been a lot of people waiting for this. Anyone who heads down, expect to be treated to one of his mind blowingly intense sets, he’s had more than enough practice to know how to blow your mind.

One for the ‘heads.’ John Heckle’s ‘Head Front Panel’ project is definitely going to be something you’ll hear more of in the future, taking over the tiny Kraak gallery to welcome back Process after a year-long hiatus…

Saturday 25th
1 Primrose Street – Troupe & Below the Surface
Dark Sky
The trio is back in Manchester once again, this time on the back of their long-awaited debut album which saw its release in summer of last year. After Troupe & BTS’s impressive Floating Points booking last month, it’ll be interesting to see how Dark Sky follow this lead.
